AJAX or AIAS, a controversial play about this Greek Samurai who
after being framed by the gods kills him self not being able to undo the shame he has
done while insane .It is a rear tragedy where the myth is not involving family
intricacies and tragedy written in the early days of Sophoclis about a very well known
myth from the Trojan War, in which after the death of Achilles a contest about his
armor took place in which the winner would have them as a sign of ultimate valor
and manhood.Aiax and Odysseus competed for hours and finally were found to be
even thus an election for who was the most fearsome fighter conducted by the Brother
Kings(Agamemnon and Menelaos) gave Odysseus the trophy.Aiax caught them
stealing his votes and this is the beginning of his tragic fate. Acting under the
influence of goddess Athena totally blinded by insanity slaughters the sheep, cows
and Sheppard’s thinking he is killing the Kings and his enemy Odysseus thus
conducting what in Tragedy is called ΥΒΡΙΣ (insulting the gods) where his fate is
from now on determined to be doomed. Affected by the tears of the mother of his
child and the pleas of his soldiers announces his decision to obey the Brother Kings
and while the chorus celebrates, dancing and singing after a long monologue
(masterpiece of poetry) kills him self falling on his sword which he had rooted in the
ground. Another showdown of monologues in conversing about the burial rites denied
to him by the Kings, takes place between them and his stepbrother while the end of
the argument is given by Odysseus. Ajax dies and with him the age of honor where
the new kind of man has to be as smart and canning as Odysseus in order to survive.
